On 19 February 2026 the Govan Mbeki Municipality issued a public notice about the water supply situation in the region. According to the notice, most reservoirs were empty or at critically low levels because Rand Water’s supply constraints severely reduced inflow. Residents were urged to use water only for essential purposes and to watch for municipal water tankers in their areas.
Reservoir status (19 February 2026)
- Region 1 (Bethal/Extension areas) – The notice said the Bethal Rand, Extension 5, Extension 4 and Van Heerden reservoirs were empty, leaving the region without piped water. The municipality planned to dispatch water tankers to supply affected communities.
- Region 2 (Secunda/Trichardt/Leandra/Evander) – Some areas such as Eendracht, Thistle Grove, Secunda and Trichardt were being bypassed to maintain flow. The notice reported reservoir levels of approximately 30 % at Leandra and 40 % at Evander, while Lebohang RDP and Kinross Town were around 80 %. Water trucks were scheduled to assist areas experiencing low pressure.
- Region 3 (Charl Cilliers/Adullam/eMbalenhle) – The Charl Cilliers reservoir was empty. Adullam Reservoir and eMbalenhle Extension 15 were at around 20 % capacity. Water carts were being deployed to supply these communities.
Residents who still have water are asked to limit usage to essential needs to help reservoir levels recover. Standwater will continue to monitor Rand Water and municipal updates. Check our water‑pressure map and community water‑source map for real‑time pressures and sources in your area.
